Full-Time Vice Principal/ Teacher

The Islamic School of Hamilton (ISH) is a private elementary school administered by the Muslim Association of Hamilton (MAH). The ISH offers an excellent Islamic work environment. The MAH is accepting applications for the position of Vice Principal/Teacher for the 2017-2018 academic school year. This position entails combined duties as a Vice Principal as well as a teacher, based on the applicant’s qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications - B. Ed or M. Ed with OCT certification - Experience teaching and demonstrating leadership in a school environment - Leadership or facilitation courses - A Criminal Background Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (dated within six months) is required prior to commencement of employment Successful applicants must demonstrate: - Understanding of the mission, vision and values of the Islamic School of Hamilton - Effective oral and written communication skills - Strong knowledge of Ontario Curriculum and current best instructional practices and trends in education - Ability to establish and develop excellent professional relationships with students, staff and the community - Initiative in guiding, planning and implementation of professional learning and development at ISH - Attitude of collaboration, teamwork and partnership - Leadership skills when assigning, delegating and overseeing operational and instructional duties given to staff - Superior conflict resolution, mediation and facilitation skills - Capacity to deliver and assess curriculum in engaging, creative and innovative ways - Ability to manage student behavior in a positive and fair manner - A passionate desire to create a nurturing and caring Islamic environment for all students NOTE: Applications are being accepted until February 28, 2018. Preferred Qualifications - Bachelor of Education with OCT certification - Experience teaching in an elementary school - Criminal background check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (dated within six months) is required prior to commencement of employment Successful applicants must demonstrate: - Knowledge of the Ontario Curriculum, specifically of Grade 7 and 8 - Proven experience in programming for students of all abilities, interests and learning styles - Ability to skillfully manage and engage students in a classroom setting - Ability to effectively document student learning (reporting and recording), and use assessments and evaluations to guide instruction - On-going commitment to student success - Professional and respectful attitude with parents, colleagues and administration - Organization and time-management skills - Ability to function collaboratively as a member of a team or committee - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with parents, staff and administration - Conflict resolution skills - Strong commitment to the mission, vision and values of the ISH - Proficient in the English language (oral and written) Applications are being accepted until February 6, 2018. Substitute teachers are responsible for the following in the absence of the regular classroom or subject teacher:
- Providing instruction
- Managing the classroom environment
- Maintaining control and discipline
- Promoting student learning
- Completing a daily report detailing the the day's events
Substitute teachers are expected to attend on very short notice
Teaching experience in an academic environment is a must. OCT certification is preferred. Police check and references are required.
