Supply Teacher Position
Tue, 16 Jul 2019

Job Description
When a permanent teacher (Homeroom or Subject teacher) is absent at the Islamic School of Hamilton (ISH), or a temporary vacancy at ISH becomes available, ISH often require the services of supply teachers. These supply teachers undertake temporary teaching assignments at the school. Supply teachers are needed in all grades (Preschool to Grade 8) and all subjects including Arabic language, Quran, Islamic Studies, French Language, ESL, and Fitness.

This area of teaching can be particularly challenging, as supply teachers have to adapt their teaching methods/style for different situations, subjects and age groups.

Supply teachers have the same roles and responsibilities as homeroom and subject teachers apart from preparing the lesson plans. They teach students using the Ontario Curriculum in accordance with the ISH policy and procedure. They are also responsible for marking students’ work and providing them with necessary feedback. If a supply teacher is given a long-term temporary assignment at a school, they will be given the responsibility of preparing lesson plans and meet with students’ parents to discuss their academic progress at Teacher-Parent meetings.

Supply teachers need to keep their skills fresh. Consequently, they must keep up-to-date with new teaching methods and the latest developments in the Education. Supply teachers are expected to attend on very short notice.
